Friends of Strathaven Scouts was formed in 1995 and now has over 150 members

Our aims are -

  1. to provide financial and other support to the 1st Strathaven Scout Group.
  2. to provide a forum for contact and association between former and present members of the Group through the publication of the annual FOSS Newsletters and by organising social events and Reunions.
  3. to publicise, through the newsletter, the activities, achievements and objectives of the Strathaven Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

One of the main activities organised by FOSS is the annual Round Strathaven 50 Cycle Charity event. First held in 2002, it has attracted an increasing number of cyclists each year and has raised just over £100,000 from entry fees and sponsorship monies since it was first held. 50% of the monies raised are distributed between the Strathaven Scouts and Guides and the other 50% donated each year to a selected Charity. Various local Scottish Charities have benefitted and in recent years we have given support to the Charity Health Help International for its work in both India and Zambia. (visit the News page for more details of the two visits by Strathaven Explorer Scouts to Zambia to carry out work for HHI and the visits which Iain Park has made with the Charity to India.)

FOSS is also responsible for the compilation and maintenance of the Strathaven Scout Group archives and as part of the Group’s 100th Anniversary celebrations in 2008 produced a DVD which contains nearly 1500 photographs illustrating the 100 years of Scouting in Strathaven ... read all about the 100 years of the Group in “A Centenary History” published by FOSS in 2015.
