Barns Ness, East Lothian
7th February 2022
A gentle coastal walk exploring fantastic fossiliferous limestone.
THE ROCKS: This short section of coast displays the best fossil limestone in the Lothians. Flat layers of creamy-grey limestone are stacked full of coral fossils and many other interesting features.
THE WALK: This short walk will take us from White Sands along to the Barns Ness lighthouse and back. I have classified this as a moderate walk: we will be walking on the beach and rough paths, where it may be rough or slippery underfoot at times. It may be wet, windy or cold. Come equipped with strong footwear and waterproof clothing. Distance 3km, duration 3 hours.
