Barns Ness to Skateraw, East Lothian

Event Date:

7th September 2023

Event Time:

10:30 am

A gentle coastal walk exploring fantastic fossiliferous limestone.

THE ROCKS: This section of coast displays the best fossil limestone in the Lothians. Flat layers of creamy-grey limestone are stacked full of coral fossils, along with other sedimentary rocks and many other interesting features.

THE WALK: This short walk will take us from White Sands past the Barns Ness lighthouse and along the beach to Skateraw; returning on the coastal path. I have classified this as a moderate walk: we will be walking on the beach and rough paths, where it may be rough or slippery underfoot at times. It may be wet, windy or cold. Come equipped with strong footwear and waterproof clothing. Distance 9km, duration 4-5 hours.

MEETING POINT & ROUTE: South end of the car park at White Sands, East Lothian. Grid reference: NT713772| Nearest Postcode: EH42 1SL | What3Words: clogging.receiving.fizzy | Route Map.
