Kinghorn, Fife

Event Date:
5th November 2023
Event Time:
2:00 pm
A short section of the Fife Coastal Path with an interesting array of igneous and sedimentary rocks including some fossil-rich limestone.
THE ROCKS: A good selection of Carboniferous layers, beginning with basalt lava flows and ash, with overlying mudstone, limestone and sandstone. The different layers are well displayed along the coastline, there are lots of interesting features and fossils, and the whole lot has been cut by several small faults.
THE WALK: A short walk along the Fife Coastal Path with brief forays onto pebbly beaches. I have classified this as a moderate walk: we will be walking on good paths, but with rough or slippery conditions underfoot at times. It may be wet, windy or cold. Come equipped with strong footwear and waterproof clothing. Distance 5km round trip, duration 2-3 hours.
MEETING POINT & ROUTE: Outside Kinghorn Train Station. Grid reference: NT269868 | Nearest Postcode: KY3 9RT | What3Words: incur.february.rentals.
