Guest lecturer James Westland will transport us to Mull to explore the Staffa Lava Formation. This is the lowest member of the Mull lava pile, with spectacular exposures on Staffa and west Mull, including wonderful sets of columns and interesting inter-lava sediments with leaf beds and fossil trees. The lowest lava flows also give us good insight into the pre-volcanic topography and geography of the area.
